I enjoy Starbucks as much as the next person. I walk out of there with my cinnamon dolce latte, feeling a little bit awake and ready for the day. That being said, I live in a city that loves to offer its residents the best pick me ups.
Each Chicago Neighborhood has a way of building a community over a cup of coffee. Picture a place where friends, writers, artists, and students come together to to talk, get some work done, and exchange ideas.
The following are some of my favorite coffee shops in the city:
1373 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60642
Located in the trendy neighborhood of Wicker Park. Enjoy a wide common space filled with comfy couches and exposed brick walls. Make sure to try the mocha lattes, chai lattes, and sweet potatoes fries.
5158 N Clark St, Chicago, IL 60640
Located in Andersonville. Enjoy an open space with high ceilings and coffee. Try their mocha lattes and salty caramel macaroons. The atmosphere is energetic so bring your laptop because the need to do some work is contagious.
Gaslight Coffee Roasters
2385 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647
Located in the hip neighborhood of Logan Square. This place will be packed with locals because it’s the kind of place the barista knows your name. Logan Square is one of the most popular neighborhoods at the moment. Enjoy their slow drip coffee.
Intelligentsia Coffee Broadway Coffeebar
3123 North Broadway, Chicago, IL 60657
Located in Lakeview, Intelligentsia is a great place to go and enjoy their wide selection of teas. Try the Moroccan Mint.
2313 N Milwaukee Ave, Chicago, IL 60647
Picture music playing from actual vinyl records. Sit and enjoy coffee while you sit at the bar and wait for the bar to start serving liquor at 6pm. This place is truly unique and the menu will not disappoint, not to mention the owners are big supporters of local artists so stop by for one of the performances. Try the Black Pepper Vanilla Fig Latte.
3 Arts Club Cafe
1300 N Dearborn St, Chicago, IL 60610
Located in the Gold Coast, this is the perfect place to splurge. Part coffeehouse and part wine bar, 3 Arts Club Cafe, is a great place to enjoy the finer things in life. Enjoy coffee in the courtyard of the Restoration Hardware, surrounded by chandeliers, candles and gorgeous furniture. Try a latte and a glass of Prosecco.
